Offlish is the extraordinary diverse language spawned by the office: an unappetising stew of acronyms, adages, catchphrases, cliches, euphemisms, jargon, inflations and ugly neologisms that has now colonised other areas of life, notably the press and television, so that it is increasingly prevalent everywhere.
The intention of Ducks in a Row is to enable readers to navigate their way through this new language. It is not a grammatical primer, a general jeremiad, or a grumpy lecture (well perhaps just a little bit). All of the 700 plus definitions and terms include examples of typical office behaviour and the types of character encountered. For each entry there is an example of how it is used, and a handy rating to show its offensiveness. |
