The Hon Senator Ian Campbell, Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, Parliament House
CALLING OF EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL MEETINGS (S.249D)
I am writing, on behalf of a coalition of industry bodies, to enquire about the status of the calling of extraordinary general meetings under S.249D of the Corporations Act ('Act'). This matter was extensively discussed with the Honorable Joe Hockey MP, the then Minister for Financial Services and Regulation, during last year with suggested changes to the legislation forwarded to his office in August 2001.
It was my understanding that an amendment to the Act was to be included with an Omnibus Bill toward the end of September. With the election last year I understand the Bill was not progressed.
I have attached the original letter signed by the coalition, as well as the suggested changes that were forwarded directly to the Minister's assistant Ms Rose Webb. As we were in constant communication at the time there is no cover letter to this correspondence regarding specific changes to the Act.
I would be happy to discuss this with yourself or a member of your staff as all members of the coalition are still very interested in securing a conclusion.
