Take stock of your DPD balance and reflect on the lessons you have learned and shared.

Members are often surprised when they realise how many DPD units they have already accrued. Indeed, more than 30 per cent of members who are half-way into their three-year DPD Foundation years have accrued at least 50 per cent of the required minimum of DPD units through participation in activities offered by the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

It is a very good achievement in regard to DPD requirements — and an even better place to be to demonstrate a dedicated approach to ongoing development.

    How are you tracking?

It is easy to check your DPD units online and log other recognised activity that the automatic system cannot verify using the member area of our website.

You can add in your professional reading —10 DPD units per year — and record your contributions to the director and governance community plus the DPD units awarded. Your state office team will be able to assist if you would like any guidance.

Thinking about your leadership, director and governance practice plus the developments and goals for your organisation, business or corporation can contribute to planning your professional learning and updates.

If it is skill and practice development that is of interest, consider completing the 30 minute online Director Self-assessment tool. Your confidential report is designed to help you choose courses, events or professional reading material from appropriate professional sources or from Company Directors. Completing the tool accrues five DPD units and is available on companydirectors.com.au/thetool.

Learning also happens “in the saddle”. While DPD units are not awarded for “doing your job”, you can accrue units for the lessons you reflect on, share or receive from colleagues or mentors.

Over time DPD will help members differentiate their capability and professionalism. Your membership post-nominals represent the dedication and commitment you have to ongoing improvement, maintaining currency and the importance of achieving excellence in practice.

With dedication you will probably be well on your way to maintaining and exceeding the DPD requirements into the future.
