More women on boards
Latest figures show the percentage of women holding directorships on ASX 200 boards continues to grow, but there's still room for progress.
According to figures released by the Australian Institute of Company Directors, women directors now fill 20 per cent of ASX 20 board positions (compared to 17.2 per cent in December 2010).
The Financial Services Council (FSC) has released a new governance policy that will require, among other things, that its members that are super funds have an independent chairman and a majority of independent directors from July 2013.
The Federal Government has extended the start date of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) to 1 October 2012 to provide more time for the not-for-profit (NFP) sector and government to work closely together to finalise the legislation.
The Model Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (the Act), which came into effect in some states on 1 January 2012, has important implications for companies' governance systems and structures, warns law firm Freehills.
Directors not providing direction or control for a risk culture are leaving their organisations exposed to inappropriate decisions, warns David Roche, principal consultant at Governance Architects.
