Conference Reflection

Company Directors Conference, Directorship:10
Christchurch, New Zealand, 12 -15 May 2010

We would like to thank those of you who attended our recent annual Company Directors Conference, Directorship:10, held in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Highlights of the conference included topical presentations by renowned Australian and international speakers, including Prof Bob Baxt AO FAICD(Life), Theresa Gattung, Prof Dr Richard Hames, Alan Cameron AM FAICD, and Prof Niall Ferguson, MA, D.Phil, Harvard Professor of History and noted author and broadcaster. A special mention to the Hon John Key, Prime Minister of New Zealand who stole the spot light at this years conference with his session on the Tasman economic market. Our speakers and forum sessions offered interesting insights, explored new ideas in corporate governance and examined questions posed by the changing global economic environment.

You should have been there!

You could have explored topics which are relevant to your professional interests. 'Ahead of the Curve' was our theme at this years conference and aimed to put the turmoil of the past two years into perspective and to provide insights that will assist directors to set up their organisations for the opportunities that lie ahead. Presentations examined the forces shaping our future economic and business environment and were supported by hot topics such as the opportunities for Australian and New Zealand directors doing business, new opportunities emerging from the GFC,boardroom diversity and the way of the future.

You could have shared thoughts, insights and championed new and emerging ideas through attendance at of the different forums.

You could have attended our session on "Tales from the Corporate Battlefield", which one delegate described as "Well worth the price of admission alone!" We can't reveal exactly what was said, because the openness of the presenters and their willingness to describe their experiences is dependant on their comments not being formally reported. But we can tell you – that you missed a frank re-telling of the battle for control of Coopers Ale from Dr Tim Cooper AM GAICD, the tragic story of the rise and fall of China online from its creator Lyric Hughes Hale and the trials and tribulations that former Wallaby Mike Hawker FAICD underwent during his time with IAG.

And you would have received 16 points towards your continuing professional development.
