The Superpit

The Superpit is managed by Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) on behalf of the joint venture owners Newmont Australia Limited and Barrick Gold of Australia Ltd.

It is the biggest gold open pit mine in Australia, and will eventually stretch to nearly 4kms, 1.35km wide and have a depth of more than 500 metres. Discovered in the 1890s as the famous “Golden Mile”, nearly 100 years later the hundreds of mining leases were consolidated to form the Fimiston Open Pit, now known as the Super Pit. It is the third biggest gold producer in the world,  mined 24/7 and produces up to 850,000 ounces of gold every year.  The operation far outweighs any other mining centre in Australia.
