AICD launches new board appointment service
Media & Communications: Media Release
A new service to assist directors find their first board position or to expand their portfolio of directorships has been launched this week by the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).
Called Directorship Opportunities, the new service is open exclusively to around 25,000 individual AICD members via the website on a subscription basis. Any organisations seeking directors can post advertisements on AICD’s website free of charge*. Members who subscribe to the service will be able to view and search the advertisements, create email alerts and apply directly for any advertised board position.
According to AICD’s Chief Executive Officer, John Colvin, having the opportunity to find board positions is an important feature of AICD membership.
“Many of our members want to develop their board experience. We are committed not only to assisting our members to achieve their goals, but also to helping boards wanting to improve governance to find well-qualified candidates,” Mr Colvin said.
Five organisations from across Australia have advertised a board vacancy as part of the launch.
The service, customised according to AICD member needs, is expected to be particularly valuable to not-for-profit organisations with pro-bono roles to fill, as well as for smaller companies establishing a board with non-executive directors for the first time.
Finding Board Positions
The new service expands and complements AICD’s existing products and services for members interested in both career progression and in giving back to society through voluntary not-for-profit directorships.
Currently, AICD offers a diverse range of board and directorship development courses, seminars and networking events designed to provide access to information about finding board positions and director responsibilities.
Directorship Opportunities replaces AICD’s former member service, Directors Register (where companies could request a search of AICD’s database of candidates who had registered their details for the purpose of finding board positions), in response to member demand for greater visibility of board vacancies. More than 5,000 current AICD members who had subscribed to the Directors Register and Alumni will automatically be granted access to the new service.
*Subject to change: AICD may later introduce a fee for organisations to post advertisements.
