2008-07 Rethinking the AGM
Policy & Advocacy: Submission
While the reliance on AGMs may be changing for shareholders, AICD continues to see a role for annual engagement through a general meeting.
CSA's discussion paper recommends removing some of the current discretions that are available to company chairmen in conducting AGMs.
AICD sees the current discretions available to chairmen as being appropriate for the benefit of well run AGMs.
AICD would be concerned about any proposals to that seek to mandate the way in which AGMs are conducted. A one size fits all approach would stifle the innovation required to improve engagement between companies and their shareholders.
