Scoping Study for a National Not-For-Profit Regulator

  • Date:18 Feb 2011
  • Type:Policy Submission
This submission to Federal Treasury sets out our views on the Consultation Paper titled “Scoping Study for a National Not-for-Profit Regulator”, released by the Federal Government on 21 January 2011.

The submission noted Company Directors’ support for the overall not-for-profit initiative and its offer to work with Government and share the benefit of its governance expertise and the insights afforded through the breadth of its membership.

The submission put forward, amongst other things, that the proposed national regime should allow for flexibility and adaptability in governance arrangements, and enhance, not detract from the ability of not-for-profit organisations to secure high calibre directors on their governing bodies.

The submission also outlined why a “light” touch should be taken regarding mandated governance practices, with the emphasis on disclosure of governance practices in place and voluntary good practice guidelines.
