AICD’s The Board and CEO course, first piloted in late October, has been well-received and will now be offered regularly.

The Board and CEO course

The relationships between your CEO, your chairman and board members are critical to the performance of your organisation. With a mix of diverse and powerful personalities, how can you best understand, manage and enhance this dynamic team?

The Board and CEO course tackles this issue, covering the full spectrum of aspects from due diligence and remuneration to feedback and succession planning. Using a case study approach involving contemporary Australian examples, this practical half day workshop starts by examining the board’s role in selecting, evaluating and working with the CEO. It then identifies good practices in enhancing this relationship and finally provides a framework for effective CEO succession planning.

Designed for executive or non-executive directors, the chairman, CEO or company secretary, The Board and CEO course will help your top team reach its full potential. It will enable participants to:

  • Understand and enhance the relationship between the board, chairman and CEO;
  • Learn current practice and criteria for CEO selection, due diligence and evaluation;
  • Identify best practices in monitoring and communicating with the CEO;
  • Discuss how to address topics such as remuneration, contracts and setting KPIs;
  • Explore the important role of feedback, coaching and mentoring; and
  • Review the importance of succession planning for the CEO role.

Please note, however, that the course does require participants to have knowledge of governance, so it’s best to have completed the Company Directors Course or Directors Essentials Governance Program for New Directors beforehand.
