AICD announces new chairman and directors
Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) has appointed Mr John Story as its new chairman along with four new directors to its national board: Mrs Linda Nicholls, Mr Dale Budd, Mr Colin Galbraith, and Mr Martin Kriewaldt. All appointments were approved at AICD’s Annual General Meeting (yesterday) and will be for a three year term effective 2 November, 2006.
John Story FAICD
John Story is non-executive chairman of the national board of Corrs Chambers Wesgarth. He is chairman of Suncorp Metway Limited, a director of CSR Limited and TABCORP Holdings Limited and formerly Queensland state president of the AICD. He replaces Don Mercer who retired as chairman after a three-year term.
Mr Story is a member of the Senate of the University of Queensland and the Service Delivery and Performance Commission of the Queensland Government. He previously served as Queensland managing partner and the national leader of Corrs Chambers Wesgarth’s Corporate Advisory Group. He was a partner with the firm for 36 years, practising in corporate and commercial law.
Linda Bardo Nicholls FAICD
Former chairman of Australia Post, Linda Nicholls, has been appointed state president of the Victorian Council of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). She replaces Mr Glenn Barnes.
Mrs Nicholls is a corporate advisor and a director of a number of leading Australian companies and organisations. She is deputy chairman of Healthscope and a director of St George Bank, Sigma Pharmaceutical Group, and Insurance Manufacturers Australia. She was chairman of Australia Post from 1997 to 2006. Linda is a member of the Council of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute for biomedical research and a trustee of The Conference Board of New York. She runs her own corporate advisory practice, specialising in business strategy in financial services and health care, and has over 30 years’ experience as a senior executive and company director.
Dale Budd FAICD
Dale Budd replaces James Morris as state president of the ACT Division of AICD. Mr Budd is vice chairman of the Australian Rail Track Corporation, chairman of the Capital Region Development Board and a member of the executive committee of the Canberra Business Council. From 1975 to 1978 and in 1981, he was chief-of-staff to former Prime Minister, Malcolm Fraser.
Mr Budd has operated his own consultancy since 1978. He has been involved in the development of proposals for high-speed rail services in Australia and is currently consulting overseas in this field.
Colin Galbraith FAICD
Colin Galbraith replaces Andrew Guy as a national director of AICD. Mr Galbraith is a special advisor to Gresham Partners Limited, chairman of BHP Billiton Community Trust, and a director of: Commonwealth Bank of Australia; OneSteel Ltd; GasNet Australia and CARE Australia. He is also a trustee of the Royal Melbourne Hospital Neuroscience Foundation. Colin currently retains an advisory role for Allens Arthur Robinson where he was a partner from 1978 to 2006.
Mr Martin Kriewaldt FAICD
Mr Kriewaldt replaces Mr John Story as state president of the Queensland Division of AICD. He is chairman of Opera Queensland Ltd, a director of: Suncorp Metway Ltd; Campbell Brothers Ltd; GWA International Ltd; Oil Search Ltd and Peptech Ltd. Martin is an advisor to Allens Arthur Robinson and AON Holdings Australia Ltd and is a member of the Redeemer Lutheran College Council.
